STTk-008: "folklore of the faltesmik: part 2" by james sunderland.

we return to the land of the mythical plant-humanoids for the second part of james sunderland's sprawling "folklore of the faltesmik" project.

moving away from the self-contained stories within part 1, the next installment of the trilogy instead contains one overarching narrative: the prelude to the dark ages of faltesmik history. within these four tracks, we follow the leader of the tribe on a journey to the top of the holy mount for violent powers, only to be punished by the gods they worship with the destruction of their land by way of wildfire.

to follow the extended concept, the music found within these 20 minutes comes with a deep sense of urgency and melancholy. while starting on the beautifully melodic "as a holy wind guides you", the tracks slowly descend into anxious dens of unrelenting kicks and inhuman synth tones, before ending with the unnerving and drum-free "losing the land".

james sunderland once again blends religious allegory with fantasy storytelling, all couched within techno-influence deeply rooted in midwestern styles, to create an experience that is as unique as they come.

look out for the conclusion of the trilogy coming out this december.
